There are many advantages of using an optical mouse. It just works better and smoother and you never have to worry about the ball getting dirty.  The disadvantages are that they cannot be used on shiny surface that may reflect the light and it is also more costly to buy one.

Ever since optical mouse is introduced, I've stick to it until today. I don't see why we should use back the old roller mouse because optical mouse is definitely much better. Basically it is maintenance free and there are better pointing accuracy.

The current market has optical mouses...and also with introduction of laser mouse ball mouse's are history...
P.S:not sure whether to pronounce plural of mouse as mice or mouse's  Very Happy

when doing documents or at work I prefer to use optical mouse.... but in gaming terms I prefer to use mouse with mouse ball....
